Audience:
Substance abuse counselors, social workers, mental health counselors, nurses, recovery counselors and interested human services professionals.
Purpose:
The purpose of this training is to provide skill training on how to facilitate early treatment with resistant patients and how to help them move into the contemplative stage of change
Objectives:
• To demonstrate an understanding of the stages of change specifically the pre-contemplation and contemplation stages.
• To increase knowledge regarding therapeutic strategies which assist patients in gaining motivation towards change.
• To identify and practice therapeutic interventions to engage and motivate change.
• To identify the most effective response or interventions to use when working with patient resistance to change.
Facilitator:
Jonathon LaPaglia MA, CADC, CPS, Supervisor of Prevention and Community Education, Jackson Recovery Centers. He has worked in the Substance Abuse field for the last 4 years. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin and his graduate degrees in General Experimental Psychology and Social Psychology from The College of William & Mary and The University of Minnesota.
