The purpose of the presentation is to provide education on the Jackson Recovery Centers stages of change and the development of skills necessary to work within each stage and to help a patient transition to a higher stage of change. The stages of change present us with an integrative framework for understanding and facilitating behavior change. It is important for helping professionals to understand the stages of change model and to teach clients and explain to clients where they are currently located in the change process.

Objectives:
• Become familiar with the 5 stages of change professionals use to identify patient progress
• Discuss what part motivation and resistance plays in treatment
• Explore ways to introduce the topic to patients
• Properly identify the correct stage of change with given patient scenarios
