STAFF ONLY! Tools for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Audience:
Substance abuse counselors, social workers, mental health counselors, nurses, recovery counselors and interested human services professionals.

Purpose:
The purpose of this training is to provide a better understanding of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The training will also explore how CBT can be used with both adults and adolescents.

Objectives:
During this workshop we’ll:
• Participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the CBT approach
• Explain appropriate therapeutic interventions
• Knowledge of strategies on how to assist clients in replacing distorted thoughts and maladaptive behaviors with appropriate ones.
• Identify populations that will benefit from CBT
• Knowledge of how to utilize therapeutic tools with clients using CBT strategies.

Faculty:
Dawn Beckwith tLMHC, CADC, Clinical Supervisor of adult outpatient services Sioux City location, Jackson Recovery Centers. She has worked in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health field for the last 12 years .She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Iowa State University and her graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. She is a trained facilitator of the Cognitive Behavior Therapy group model “Thinking for Change”.

Lori McKinlay, LISW, Program Manager for the Inpatient Crisis Stabilization Unit at Jackson Recovery Centers. Lori has worked as Program Manager for 3 years. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Briar Cliff University and her graduate degree in Social Work from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
