Ethics is Key

Audience:
Substance abuse counselors, social workers, mental health counselors, nurses, recovery counselors and interested human services professionals.

Purpose:
This training will address ethic decision making and considerations in the behavioral healthcare environment. Ben Nesselhuf and Heidi Kammer-Hodge will discuss ethical values and codes of conduct as guides to clinical and professional decision making. The workshop will explore the nature of the patient/staff/communication relationships. Issues that will be addressed include: competence and scope of practice, peer relationships and boundaries, and the impaired professional.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop participants will be able to:
• Identify common ethical situations and high risk behaviors.
• Identify process and steps for ethical decision making
• Apply common elements of professional codes of conduct to practical and professional situations.

Faculty:
Heidi Kammer-Hodge is the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Heidi has 18 years of experience in addiction, mental health and integrated care, including 15 years of health care management/leadership. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota in Social Work and Drug and Alcohol Abuse Studies. She received her Master’s Degree in Family Practice and Policy and Administration from Augsburg College in Minneapolis. She has also completed the Non-Profit Leadership Institute.

Ben Nesselhuf is the Vice President and Chief Development Officer as well as the Executive Director of the Jackson Recovery Centers' Foundation. Before coming to Jackson, Ben spent 18 years in politics working on campaigns at every level from Presidential to local office. Ben also served in the South Dakota Legislature for 10 years and served as the Chairman of the South Dakota Democratic Party. He is a Vermillion, South Dakota native and a graduate from the University of South Dakota. Ben has also received his Certificate in Fundraising Management from the University of Nebraska Omaha and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
