STAFF ONLY! Intervention: Beginning the Recovery Journey

Friday, August 31, 2018
8:45 am12:00 pm
Kermit Dahlen Training Center - 3500 W. 4th Street - Sioux City, IA 51103

Audience:
Substance abuse counselors, social workers, mental health counselors, nurses, recovery counselors and interested human services professionals.

Purpose:
When confronting addiction, love is a powerful force. Intervention is the most effective and live-saving step a family can take to help their loved one suffering from substance dependency. This training will help participants to better understand the timeframes of an intervention (pre-intervention, intervention day, and post-intervention). The training will focus on the necessary components for long-term recovery, including family support and involvement. Common pitfalls to effective interventions will also be discussed during the training.

Objectives:
During this workshop we’ll:
• Become familiar with types of interventions and the Love First intervention approach
• Properly identify the correct treatment program to meet the patient’s needs. There is not a one-size fits all approach to finding the best treatment center.
• Identify ways family members enable their loved one and importance of taking care of one’s self
• Discover common myths family members hold that need to be dispelled before a successful intervention can be conducted.
• Better understand the family member and friends’ roles in the recovery process
• Learn ways family members adjust to recovery and relapse
