Has my loved one's problem affected me? - Self Test

Ask yourself the following questions:

Do you worry about how much they use?
Do you complain about how often they use?
Do you criticize the amount of money they spend on using?
Have you ever been hurt or embarrassed by their behavior when they were using?
Are holidays in your home unpleasant because of their use?
Do they ever lie about their use?
Do they deny their use affects their behavior?
Do they say or do things and later deny having said or done them?
Do you sometimes feel that their use is more important to them than you are?
Do they get angry if you criticize their use or their using companions?
Is drinking/using involved in almost all your family activities?
Does your family spend almost as much on alcohol/drugs as on food?
Are you having financial difficulties because of their use?
Does their use keep them away from home a great deal?
Have you ever threatened to leave them because of their use?
Have you ever lied for them because of their use?
Do you ever urge them to eat instead of use at parties?
Have they ever stopped using completely for a period of time, only to start again? Were you angry/hurt/disappointed/embarrassed?
Have you ever thought about calling the police because of their use?
Do you think their use has created problems for them?
Are most of your waking moments spent thinking about them?
Have you gone out looking for them?
Do you shoulder most of the family responsibilities?
Do you hide your feelings?
Do you avoid social situations so you won't have to deal with their use?
Have you stopped having friends over because of your loved one's use?
Do you try to match their use?
Do you frequently ask for promises from them?
Have you hidden, discarded, or diluted their substances?
Do you feel everything would be ok if they would quit using?
Do your moods change dramatically as a result of their or not using?
Do you feel responsible for their use?
Do you try to conceal the problem to protect them?
Have you tried to control the amount of money this person is allowed?
If there are children at home,are they showing signs of emotional stress of behavior problems?
Have you had any of these physical symptoms: ulcers, shakiness, sweating palms, nail biting, weight loss/gain?
Do you wish you could find just the right thing to say or do to make the person stop using?
Is your sexual relationship with this person affected?
